静岡市の地元に住んでいる人には「鷹匠町」（たかじょうまち）という名前で親しまれています。現在の正式な町名としては鷹匠〇丁目です　ちなみにショッピングモール、鉄道、バスターミナルが入った複合施設、新静岡セノバの住所は鷹匠1丁目１－１です。

　今回の記事では「町」をつけたほうが分かりやすいため、「鷹匠町」と記しました。ご了承下さい。

Takajo districs

鷹匠の地区（鷹匠町）

Takajo districts are located near the Sumpu Castle Park.

鷹匠町は駿府城公園の近くにあります。

Takajo districts are comprised of three districts from the 1st to the 3rd.

鷹匠町は1丁目から3丁目まであります。

Higashi-Takajo-machi(East Takajo-machi) is also situated beside these three districts

3つの町内の横に東鷹匠町（ひがしたかじょうまち）もあります。

In Shizuoka City, Takajo districts are known as a　prestigious residential area, which also has sophisticated luxury shops, cafes and restaurants.

静岡市で、鷹匠町は高級住宅地として知られ、そこにはオシャレで高級なお店、カフェ、レストランがあります。

Shin-Shizuoka Cenova, one of the biggest shopping malls is also located there. It also includes Shizuoka Railway and its bus terminal.

最も大きなショッピングモールの一つである新静岡セノバもこの地にあります。セノバは静岡鉄道とそのバスターミナルも含みます。

'Takajo' refers to’ falconer’.

「たかじょう」は「鷹匠」（鷹を飼育・訓練し、鷹狩りに従うことを職とした人）を指します。（デジタル大辞典より）

It is well-known that Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu gave falconers important positions because he loved falconry so much.

徳川家康公は鷹狩が大のお気に入りだったので、鷹匠を重用したのはよく知られています。

Falconry greatly benefitted Lord Ieyasu’s health.

鷹狩のおかげで、家康公は大変健康でいられました。

As a result, he lived to be the age of 75.

その結果、家康公は75歳まで生きました。

His falconers were settled near the castle as samurai.

彼の鷹匠は武士としてお城近くに住みました。

Takajo districts have more smaller sections than the central area in Aoi Ward.

鷹匠町は葵区の中心地よりも多くの区画がより小さくなっています。

In the Edo period,　the districts were not commoners’ area ,therefore they did not need to be highly organized like a chessboard.

江戸時代、この地区は町人地ではありませんでした。ですから、チェス盤の様に非常に整頓されている必要はありませんでした。

Interestingly, former samurai districts like Kusabuka-cho and Takajo have narrower streets than central districts in Aoi Ward.

面白いことに、草深町や鷹匠のような元武家地は葵区の中心街より道が狭くなっています。

These districts also show the remains of the city designed by Lord Ieyasu in the Edo period .

江戸時代に家康公が作った都市計画の名残がこれらの地区で見られます。
