世界的なイベントであるオリンピックが閉幕しました。五輪ではアスリートの熱戦を見るのと同時に、開会式のピクトグラムパフォーマンスなどエンターテインメントも話題に。
明治から昭和にかけて静岡でエンターテインメントを楽しむと言えば、それは七間町に行くことでした。

The first theater in Shizuoka prefecture opened in Shichiken-cho in 1870 (the third year of the Meiji Period).
静岡県で最初の芝居小屋は1870年（明治3年）に七間町に開かれました。

Gradually, this district became an entertainment center for the local people.
だんだんこの地区は地元の人々のエンターテインメントの中心になりました。

The first movie to be shown in Shizuoka prefecture in 1897 was also at Shichiken-cho.
静岡県で1807年に最初に上映された映画も七間町で見られました。

Soon after, more theaters and cinemas opened there.
まもなくここで多くの劇場や映画館が開館しました。

At the beginning of the Showa Period (about 1928), the district's main road was paved with asphalt as a trial project.
昭和時代の始め(1928年、昭和3年)この地区の目抜き通りは試験事業としてアスファルト舗装がされました。

Then in July 1928, street lamps were installed along the main road, making strolling in Shichiken-cho a popular activity for Shizuoka people.
そして1928年の7月に、街路灯が七間町通りに設置され、静岡の人々は好んで七間町をぶらぶら歩いたものでした。

The area flourished with more movie theaters after WW2.
この地区は第二次大戦後も映画館で栄えました。

Shichiken-cho was known as the cinema center in Shizuoka.
七間町と言えば静岡の人々には映画館の町として知られていました。

Shizuoka Orion-za was the biggest movie theater in Shizuoka prefecture at that time.
静岡オリオン座は当時静岡県の中で一番大きな劇場でした。

In 2000, there were 14 movie theaters in the old Shizuoka City.
2000年、旧静岡市には14の映画館がありました。

In 2003, old Shizuoka and old Shimizu cities merged to form the new Shizuoka City.
2003年に旧静岡市と旧清水市が合併し、新しい静岡市になりました。

Shizuoka Orion-za closed down in 2011, just a month before a new cinema complex opened in another district.
静岡オリオン座は2011年に閉館しました。まさに新しいシネマコンプレックスが別の地区にできる1か月前のことでした。

The original building was demolished to give way to a new government building.
元のオリオン座は壊され、新しい官庁の建物になりました。

Some movie equipment donated by movie companies are displayed to serve as a reminder of the once-movie town.
映画会社から寄付された映画の道具が展示されており、七間町がかつて映画の町だったことを物語っています。

Shizuoka Toho Movie Theater still operates and continues to uphold the pride of Shichiken-cho as a movie district in Shizuoka.
静岡東宝会館は営業を続けていて、静岡における映画の町としての七間町のプライドを守り続けています。
