スティーブン・キングの文春文庫が２千円もする
金曜日に近所の本屋に行ったら、スティーブン・キングの単行本の新刊が置いてあった。インターネットの書店では、この本は月曜日発売予定となっていて、金曜日には買えない。
これは、出版社からの、町の本屋さんに対する配慮だろうか？
それとも、出版者が希望する発売予定日より前に入荷した本を、本屋がちょっと早めに売っているのだろうか？
それはともかく、驚いたのは２０２１年に2,420円の単行本で出版されたスティーブン・キングの『アウトサイダー』が今年、1,980円の文庫で出たことだ。1,980円といえば、数年前の単行本の値段だ。
出版科学研究所（東京都）の調査では、文庫本の新刊平均価格は2001年が587円だったが、21年には732円に上昇。税込は805円となった。本の売り上げが減り、初版部数の減少や紙の高騰が大きな要因という。（中略）また、時代小説などは読者の高齢化に合わせて読みやすいように文字を大きくしているため、ページ数が増える傾向も一つの理由という。
読みたい本は図書館から借りて読むか、図書館になければ割安な電子書籍を買うことになるのだろう。

Anyway, what surprised me was that Stephen King's "The Outsider", which was published in 2021 in hardcover for 2,420 yen, was released this year in paperback for 1,980 yen.
Speaking of 1,980 yen, it was the price of a hardcover a few years ago.
According to a survey by the Institute of Publishing Science (Tokyo), the average price of a new paperback book was 587 yen in 2001, but rose to 732 yen in 2021. The price including tax was 805 yen. The rise in prices is due to a decline in book sales, a decline in first edition copies, and a rise in paper prices. (Omitted) Another reason is that historical novels tend to have larger fonts to make them easier to read as readers age, so the number of pages tends to increase.
If you want to read a book, you can either borrow it from the library or buy an inexpensive e-book if it is not available at the library.
