今となっては、はるか昔のことのようだが、２０２０年にロシアでも『あの病気』がはやっていた時、大統領が首相とテレビ会談をしている動画がテレビで流れた。
その場で、首相から、「自分も感染しました」という報告を初めて聞いた大統領は、「あんたも感染したのか、困ったな」といってため息をついた。

普段は大概のことでは表情を変えない大統領でも、こんな普通の反応を見せるのかと思ったものだ。
少し親近感を覚えたものだった、その時は。

いつから、彼はウクライナに侵攻しようと思っていたのだろうか。ひょっとして２０２０年に仕掛けようと思っていたが、『あの病気』が大流行したので、やむなく延期したのかもしれない。

そこで思い出した。いわゆる「スペイン風邪」と言われるインフルエンザが大流行したのは、第一次世界大戦の終盤と重なっている。

ウィキペディアによると、スペイン風邪の世界全体の推定感染者数は世界人口（１８～１９億人）の２５～３０％、または世界人口の３分の１、または約５億人とされている。世界全体の推定死者数は１７００万人から１億人と幅がある。

一方、この記事によると、『あの病気』の感染者数は５億人を超えたという。また、死者の数は世界全体で６１８万人余りとなっているそうだ。

感染者数でみると同規模の疫病の流行時期が、大きな戦争と重なっているのは偶然なのだろうか？

アルフレッド・W．クロスビー『史上最悪のインフルエンザ』みすず書房、２００９年　によると、兵士たちの宿舎などで「スペイン風邪」が大流行したそうである。ロシアでもウクライナでも、兵士たちは集団生活をしていると思うが、そこで新たな変異ウィルスが発生したりしないのだろうか。

It seems like a long time ago now, but in 2020, when "that disease" was also prevalent in Russia, a video of the president having a televised meeting with the prime minister was shown on TV. When he first heard the prime minister's report that he, too, had been infected, the president sighed and said, "You've been infected, too?

I wondered if the president, who normally does not change his facial expression at most things, would show such a normal reaction. I felt a little closer to him, at the time.

Since when did he intend to invade Ukraine? Perhaps he was planning to launch it in 2020, but was forced to postpone it because of the outbreak of "that disease".

Then I remembered. The so-called "Spanish flu" pandemic coincided with the end of World War I.

According to Wikipedia, the estimated number of people infected with the Spanish flu worldwide is 25-30% of the world's population (1.8-1.9 billion), or one-third of the world's population, or about 500 million. The estimated death toll for the entire world ranges from 17 million to 100 million.

Meanwhile, according to this article, the number of people infected with "that disease" has exceeded 500 million. The number of deaths is said to be more than 6.18 million worldwide.

Is it a coincidence that the epidemic period of the same scale in terms of the number of infected people overlaps with the great war?

According to Alfred W. Crosby, "AMERICA’S FORGOTTEN PANDEMIC" Misuzu Shobo, 2009, the "Spanish flu" has spread widely in soldiers' quarters. I believe that soldiers are now living in groups in both Russia and Ukraine, and I wonder if any new mutant viruses will break out there.
