Essay

I am writing an essay about a news. Jacinda Ardern had announced that New Zealand bought enough COVID-19 vaccine for all New Zealanders. She is the prime minister of New Zealand. I will talk about two topics. Those are "how much they bought and about other countries" and "myths about vaccines".

New Zealand pre-purchased approximately three times doses of COVID vaccines. In the herald news website, it says that New Zealand bought 750,000 courses from Pfizer/BioNTech, 5 million courses from Janssen, 3.8 million courses from the University of Oxford/AstraZeneca and 5.36 million courses from Novavax. This is approximately 15 million in total. The population of New Zealand is approximately 4.8 million. New Zealand was not the first to buy a lot of vaccines because before Europe Union bought 1.6 billion (21.9%), US bought 1 billion (13.9%) and Japan bought 290 million (4.0%). New Zealanders can start using these vaccines from March, but the prime minister wants to "ensure the vaccine is safe for New Zealanders." From these facts, I was able to understand that New Zealand's Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern cares about her citizens' health. I am surprised that Japan bought double amount of vaccines to the population of Japan.

Some people says that the COVID vaccine modifies our genetics. Bill Gates said that "That’s just a myth. Genetic modification would involve the deliberate insertion of foreign DNA into the nucleus of a human cell, and vaccines simply don’t do that." Bill Gates is very reliable because he is the co-founder of Microsoft. If he says it doesn't modify genetic, most people will believe it doesn't. But I think that there is still possibility which could modify genetics or something bad for us.

From what I wrote, I think Jacinda Ardern is doing really great job. And I also think that we shouldn't start using the vaccine now, because it is not proved that it can prevent us from getting the virus.
