道路工事の穴を見下ろしていたら
背後から突き落とされた。

まったく悪い奴がいるものである。

穴の底で働く労働者たちは人ではなかった。
額から触角らしきものが伸びていた。

そのうちのひとり、現場監督であろうか　
僕を食事に招待したい、と言う。

とても断れる状況ではなかった。
彼女の両目は複眼だった。

横穴の暗く狭い通路を進むしかないのだった。

「ここは食糧倉庫よ。覗いてごらんなさい」

重い金属の扉が開く。
しばらく闇しか見えなかった。

何か奥で動く気配がした。
その時、不意に背中を押された。

「冗談よ。閉じ込めたりするもんですか」
彼女は笑いもせず、扉を閉めた。

入り口の縁をしっかりつかんでいなかったら　
どうなっていたことか。

気を取り直し、通路を進む。
前を行く彼女の背中から目が離せない。

その腰はほとんどないくらいに細かった。
なのに異常に大きな尻。

腕と脚が合わせて六本あるのも気になった。

「この部屋は私の寝室よ。
　ドアの鍵が壊れているの。いやーね」

誘っているのだろうか。
甲羅のような顔が黒光りする。

その木製のドアの隙間から
棘のようなものが見えたような気がした。

「それから、こっちが応接間なの」
それは紙の扉だった。

素手でも破れそうだった。
だが、爪を立てると、太い金網が隠されていた。

「どうしたの？ 何をためらっているの？」

振り向いた彼女のアゴが横に大きく開いた。
それはとても丈夫そうに見えた。
　

Ant Nest

When I was looking down
at the hole in the road construction,
someone pushed me down from behind.

There is a completely bad guy.

The workers working at the bottom of the hole
were not people.
