遊園地でアルバイトをしていた。

その日は、回転ボートの担当になった。
回転ボートとは、池の上を旋回するだけのボート。

こんなものでも子どもたちは喜んでくれる。

担当は、切符を受け取り、客を入場させる。
小さな子どもなら、抱えてボートに乗せてやる。

愛想はよい方だから、楽な仕事だった。

この回転ボートのコーナーの隣には　
メリーゴーランドのコーナーがあった。

同じくアルバイトの女の子が担当していた。

彼女と仲良くなりたいな、などと思いながら　
幼いお客さんをボートに乗り降りさせていた。

ところが、ちょっと目を離した隙に　
子どもの腕が一本、池に落ちてしまった。

だから、子どもはきらいだ。
いとも簡単に壊れてしまうんだから。

あわてて池から腕を拾い上げた。

けれど、人が多く、どの子の腕かわからない。
片腕の子も、泣いてる子も見つからない。

腕を持ったまま途方に暮れていると　
その問題の腕を引っ張る奴がいる。　

腕に噛みつくのは、一頭の木馬だった。
隣のメリーゴーランドから逃げてきたのだ。

腕をニンジンとまちがえているらしい。

隣のコーナーのアルバイトの女の子が　
泣きそうな顔をしてこちらを見ている。

「わたし、そういうの、困ります」

そうであろうなあ。
どうも彼女とは友だちになれそうもない。

木馬は腕を一本、みんな食べてしまった。

なんということだ。犯罪ではないか。
共犯者にされてしまう。お尋ね者だ。

それは、まずい。ここから逃げよう。

ひらりと木馬にまたがると、拍車を当て　
客を蹴散らしながら出口をめざした。

パカラッ　パカラッ　パカラッ　パカラッ　

しかし、どこへ逃げたらいいのだ。

遊園地だから走るのであって　
外に出たら、木馬は木馬。

走るはずがない。

Amusement Park Crime
