輪
信濃川のすぐ近く　
水力発電所の貯水池に鴨の群があった。

適当な間隔を置いて水面に浮かんでいる。
少なくとも一千羽はいるものと思われた。

私は欄干にもたれ、鴨の群を眺めていた。

やがて、灰色の空から雪が降ってきた。
持参の折りたたみ傘を私は差した。

白く冷たい雪に包まれながら
鴨の群は白い水面に枯葉色に浮かんている。

まるで絵のようだ、と思った。

ときおり鴨が鳴く。

意味はわからないが　
その鳴き声を口真似してみる。

なかなか似ているような気がして　
ちょっと嬉しくなる。

いつしか、雪は雨に変わった。

冬の雨は雪より冷たいように感じられる。
さすがに鴨たちも冷たかろう。

そろそろ帰ろうかと思っていたら　
不意に西日が射した。

ひょっとして、と期待したその時、
貯水池の向こうの空に虹が架かった。

その外側にも二番目の虹が薄く見えた。

まるで絵のようだ、と再び思った。

それでも鴨の群は動かないのだった。
鴨は二重の虹なんかに興味はないらしい。

もう一回、鴨の鳴き声を口真似してから　
私は貯水池の鴨の群に背を向けた。

Ducks in the Reservoir

Close to the Shinano River,
there was a group of ducks
in the reservoir of the hydropower station.

They are floating on the water at an appropriate interval.
It seems that there are at least one thousand birds.

I was leaning against the railings and looking at the group of ducks.

Eventually, snow fell from the gray sky.
I handed the folding umbrella I brought.

While being covered in white cold snow,
the group of ducks floats
on the white water surface in dead leaf color.

I thought it was like a picture.

Occasionally ducks crow.

I do not know the meaning, but I try to imitate that bark.

I feel pretty similar, I feel a little happy.

Before we knew it, the snow turned into rain.

It is felt that rain in winter is colder than snow.
As expected the ducks will be cold.

Suddenly when I thought I should go home,
the sun has shot from the west.

Perhaps at the time I expected it,
a rainbow stretched across the sky beyond the reservoir.

The second rainbow appeared thin to the outside.

I thought again that it looks like a picture.

Still the duck group did not move.
Ducks seem not interested in a double rainbow.

One more time, after duplicating the bark of the duck,
I turned my back to the group of ducks in the reservoir.
