イースター休暇がはじまりました。木曜日は強風で雹ヒョウまで降る荒天だったのに、土曜日は打って変わって暖かく、あーちゃんと二人でケンジントンにお買い物にでたついでに公園を散歩して帰ることにしました。

というわけで、クワッ！と晴れたケンジントン・パーク&ハイド・パークをおすそわけ。

ケンジントン宮殿の前は花盛りでした。広々してるのでそんなに見えないけどあっちでもこっちでも、人がピクニックしています。

サイクリングする人も見かけました。ロンドンでは、交通局が自転車推ししてるので、携帯にアプリをダウンロードして、街のあちこちで、電動自転車、気軽に借りられます。

ハイドパークなんか、いろいろ見どころが散らばっているけど、慣れないと広さに圧倒されてすぐ疲れちゃうと思うので、雰囲気を楽しんで全体を制覇するのに、実は、レンタサイクルってすごく良いかもしれません。

しかし２年も住んでれば勝手知ったる公園内。あーちゃんと、アイスクリームかじりながらぶらぶら散歩して、家に近い北東の角を目指します。草っぱらに、ちょっと座って休憩できる丸太が転がってるのもいいんだよね。

太ったリスも春を堪能しています。

ケンジントンパークとハイドパークの境目のイタリアンガーデンの近くは、水辺と木のバランスが良くてお気に入りなんだけど、この日のあーちゃんは、この石のサークルをぐるぐる歩いてひとしきり遊びました。

そこからパディントンに抜けて帰ろうと思ってたけど、「去年の秋に植えた花を見たい」あーちゃんが言うので、水辺沿いに歩いて、サーペンタイン湖の東の端へ。

白鳥たちも日を浴びてリラックスした感じです。夕方５時過ぎだというのに、ボート乗り場は行列でした。

カフェのテラス席も賑わってました。あーちゃんはカフェに入りたがったけど、さっきアイス食べましたからね。もう夕方だし、家に帰ろう。

芝生を養生してる上にたくさんキラキラと光る風車が刺してあったよ。偽物のカラスのカイトもフラフラ風に揺れていたから、野鳥除けかな。それを横目にマーブルアーチまで歩いて、バスで帰りました。

３月も終わり。英国では４月は新年度ではないけれど、子どもたちは一息をつくイースター休暇で、学期の節目であることは変わりません。

あちこちでうさぎのデコレーションや、卵ハンティングのイベントが催されていて、春が来たなって気がします。

A Glorious Spring Day

The Easter holiday had finally arrived! Saturday dawned bright and warm after a stormy Thursday with strong winds and even hail. My daughter and I went shopping in Kensington and then strolled through the park on our way home.

Flowers in full bloom In front of Kensington Palace. People were picnicking on the vast lawns, enjoying the beautiful weather. The pond in front of the palace was also bustling with activity, with people walking around and feeding wild birds. There was a long queue on the ice cream van.

We saw a few people cycling through the park. Transport for London (TfL) encourages people to use cycles by providing a convenient app-based system for renting electric bikes around the city. For tourists, this can be a good solution to enjoy the atmosphere of a huge park with its many scattered attractions.

However, after living in London for two years, we knew this park well. We ambled along, ricking ice cream, and headed towards our home. The park thoughtfully provides simple log benches scattered throughout the grass, perfect for taking a quick break and enjoying the scenery.

A plump squirrel seemed to enjoy the spring sunshine as much as we were.

Near the Italian Gardens, between Kensington Park and Hyde Park, we stopped to admire the serene balance of water and trees. This is one of my favourite spots in the park. On this particular day, my little one amused herself by stepping around the stone circle on the hill.

My plan was to head back through Paddington from there, but my girl wanted to greet the flowers she had planted last autumn. So we continued along the water's edge, making our way to the eastern end of the Serpentine Lake.

The relaxed swans were basking in the sun. Even though it was past 5 pm, there was a long queue at the boat station. The corner cafe was busy too. There must be a dazzling view from the terrace. However, we had just had ice cream, and it was getting late. We decided to go home.

We saw rows of sparkling windmills on the grass, and fake crows on kites fluttered in the wind. Perhaps they are protecting the grass from birds. We walked past them towards Marble Arch and caught a bus home.

Unlike in Japan, in the UK, April does not mark the start of the new fiscal year. However, it marks a delightful term break for children. I see many rabbit decorations in merchants and easily find egg-hunting events for children.

Love to see that spring has come.
