僕は青木鉄平、三重県名張市に住む普通の高校生だ。名張駅から近鉄の伊賀神戸駅まで行って、そこで伊賀鉄道に乗り換えて、上野高校まで通っている。伊賀鉄道も昔は近鉄の一路線だったが、利益が出ない関係で第三セクター方式に変更された。伊賀鉄道の電車は忍者の絵が描かれていて、地元の人から愛されている。

そんな伊賀鉄道だけど、コロナで鉄道収益が激減し、廃止してバスに変更する案が出ていた。名張市から上野高校・上野城までのルートと、伊賀神戸駅から上野までのルートを作るらしい。

僕たち上野高校の生徒たちは、伊賀鉄道を愛していた。そして、大切な通学・生活の足になっていた。そんな伊賀鉄道を廃止するなんて許せない。

僕たち上野高校の生徒と、地元伊賀市の住民たちは結束して、三重県伊賀市に直談判に行った。

「どうして伊賀鉄道を廃止するんですか？何か廃止を回避する手段はありませんか？

「鉄道は、乗客が少ないときでもメンテナンス費用がかかるし、コロナで外国人観光客も減って、大変なんです。伊賀市としても色々と廃止だけは回避できないか検討してきたんですが・・・」

「わかりました。では、伊賀市民でクラウドファンディングを組成し、さらに外国人観光客を集める方策を考えてみます」

僕たちは、伊賀市民と、伊賀上野方面へ通勤・通学している名張市民とで結束して、クラウドファンディングを拠出することになった。年間、1000万円は集められそうな算段がついた。これで少しだけど赤字を埋められる。

そして、外国人観光客が来るようにするため、様々な案を考えてみた。まず、伊賀市民みんなで少しずつ英語や中国語、タイ語、インドネシア語などを分担して勉強した。外国人観光客の方をおもてなしするためだ。そして、伊賀市の観光地と伊賀鉄道をPRするWEBサイトを、自分たちで技術を勉強して制作した。このWEBサイトは、英語・ドイツ語・フランス語・スペイン語・ロシア語・イタリア語・中国語・韓国語・タイ語・インドネシア語で閲覧できるようにした。

さらには、旅行会社への売り込みも考えた。伊賀鉄道と強力して、ローカル線で伊賀上野まで旅行に行って、飲食や忍者体験会を楽しむプランを僕たちは売り込んだ。旅行会社の反応は上々だった。

「これは、外国人観光客が喜びそうなプランですね・・・」

新型コロナウイルスも落ち着いてきた2025年、たくさんの外国人観光客で伊賀上野は大いに盛り上がっていた。

「これから忍者のパフォーマンスをしますよ！壁を登ります！」

We Ueno High School students and local Iga City residents banded together and went to Iga City in Mie Prefecture for a direct negotiation.

We decided to join forces with the citizens of Iga and the citizens of Nabari who commute to work or school in the Iga-Ueno area to contribute to crowdfunding. I have calculated that I can collect 10 million yen a year. This will cover the deficit a little bit.

And we thought of various ideas to attract foreign tourists. First, the citizens of Iga gradually learned English, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, and other languages. This is to entertain foreign tourists. Then, they studied the technology themselves and created a website that promotes Iga City's tourist spots and the Iga Railway.
