日本を代表する脚本家「橋本忍」。黒澤明監督作品「生きる」「七人の侍」「羅生門」など数々の黒澤明監督作品をはじめ、野村芳太郎監督作品「砂の器」、森谷司郎監督作品「八甲田山」など、映画化された脚本は71作品にのぼる。昭和の映画史に刻まれている作品のシナリオを書いた人である。

Japan's leading screenwriter "Shinobu Hashimoto". Akira Kurosawa's works "To Live", "Seven Samurai", "Rashomon" and many other works directed by Akira Kurosawa, Yoshitaro Nomura's work "Castle of Sand", and Shiro Moritani's work "Mt. Hakkoda" have been made into movies. There are 71 screenplays. He is the person who wrote the scenario of the work engraved in the history of Showa movies.

用事があって兵庫県神崎郡市川町を訪れ、帰り途中に一休みで立ち寄った「市川町文化センター」。ここで目に入ったのが「橋本忍記念館」。なんで橋本忍の資料などがここに、と思いながら見ると、ここ市川町が橋本忍さんの郷里だった。

The "Ichikawa Town Cultural Center" visited Ichikawa Town, Kanzaki District, Hyogo Prefecture for business, and stopped by for a break on the way home. What I saw here was the "Hashimoto Shinobu Memorial Hall". When I wondered why Shinobu Hashimoto's materials are here, Ichikawa Town was Shinobu Hashimoto's hometown.

ここ文化センター内に橋本忍作品の台本や構成本などが展示されていた。ヴェネチア国際映画祭金獅子賞受賞の「七人の侍」の盾や台本、「風林火山」や「羅生門」の台本などなど興味のそそるものばかり。手にとって覗き込んでみたいと思うほど貴重なものだった。

The scripts and composition books of Shinobu Hashimoto's works were exhibited here in the Cultural Center. The shields and scripts of "Seven Samurai", which won the Golden Lion Award at the Venice International Film Festival, and the scripts of "Furinkazan" and "Rashomon" are all intriguing. It was so precious that I wanted to look into it in my hand.

その中で、興味を惹いた展示パネルに橋本忍の「シナリオ作法」というのがあった。その一部を抜粋し紹介する。
「橋本忍は素材選びに最も時間をかける。ツボにはまった素材を得、そして構成へと進む。その瞬間こそが橋本忍の技がさえるときである。(中略) 橋本忍はシナリオを書くにあたっては1／3システムを採用している。1／3書き進むごとに構成をふりかえり、生じた誤差や欠点をただしていくこのシステムにより、緻密さと重厚さが増し、シナリオの完成度が高まっていく。

Among them, one of the exhibition panels that attracted interest was Shinobu Hashimoto's "Scenario Manners". Here are some excerpts.
"Shinobu Hashimoto spends the most time choosing materials. He gets the material that fits in the pot and proceeds to the composition. That is the moment when Shinobu Hashimoto's skill is supported. (Omitted) Shinobu Hashimoto is in writing the scenario. Has adopted a 1/3 system. This system, which looks back on the composition each time 1/3 is written and corrects any errors or defects that occur, increases the precision and profoundness, and the completeness of the scenario.

脚本家は、監督や出演者の陰に隠れてしまっているが、実は監督以上の役割があると言われている。作品の生みの親のような存在である。黒澤明とって橋本忍は欠かせない右手であり左手でもあった。大げさにいうなら、橋本忍なしでは黒澤明は存在しなかった、といっても過言ではないだろう。

Although the scriptwriter is hidden behind the director and performers, it is said that he actually has a role more than a director. He is like the creator of the work. For Akira Kurosawa, Shinobu Hashimoto was an indispensable right and left hand. To exaggerate, it would be no exaggeration to say that Akira Kurosawa would not have existed without Shinobu Hashimoto.

残念ながら2年前102歳で人生の幕が閉じられた。日本の映画史を支えた大きな大きな宝物であった。筆者の好きな「生きる」をまた観たくなった。

Unfortunately, two years ago, at the age of 102, the curtain on life ended. It was a big treasure that supported the history of Japanese cinema. I wanted to see my favorite "living" again.
