みなさんこんにちは。
フィンランドではにぎやかだったクリスマスが終わり、ひと段落したところです。みなさん同じだと思いますが、もう年明けだなんて信じられない！
フィンランドについて調べると、多分ほとんどいいことしか出てこないと思います。わたしも留学当初はなんて素敵な国なの！それに比べて日本での生活はなあ。とひたすらフィンランドを絶賛していましたが、時間がたち、慣れていくにつれほかの面も見えてくるようになりました。今回はフィンランド留学生活も折り返しとなる私が見えてきた、地元東京、日本の良さについて綴っていこうと思います。ただし、あくまで私目線なのと、高校交換留学は一人でできることが限られるということを̪お読みいただく前に知っていただきたいです。

ショッピングが楽しい！ワクワクする！
フィンランドではどこの駅にも、どの場所にも同じチェーン店のお店のみで、各駅を降りてからの景色がほとんど変わらないこと。
ショッピング時のワクワクは日本と比べて少ないかもしれません。どこに行っても同じお店と同じ商品。
しかし、ツイッターを見ていると、日本でも同じことが言えるのかも。Atreをはじめ、資本主義の影響か駅近くのお店が同じ、ということを聞きました。しかし！！フィンランドはチェーン店の種類が少ないからか、本当に本当にどこに行っても似ていますよ‼

街がにぎやかでお店の種類が豊富
首都であるヘルシンキ。駅の近くはショッピングモールがいくつかあり、にぎやかですが、十数分も歩けば周りが寂しくなっていきます。
新宿はにぎやかだなあ。笑
しかし。の人は多いけど都会の喧騒とは程遠い落ち着いた空間がよかったりもします。みんな落ち着いてる笑

洋服、食品をはじめ安くて高品質！
コンビニは、神。マックも、洋服屋さんも、全部、神。
バーガーチェーンでバーガー、飲み物、ポテトを頼むと、１０ユーロは越えます。。つまり、１６００円近く。(その代わりバーガーは一回り大きい)
日本でいうイトーヨーカドーのような大手のスーパーで売っている洋服でさえ一着20ユーロ越え。とにかく高い。でもそれはフィンランド人にとっても同じようで、それゆえ必要な分しか買わず、エコになっているのかな…。
SHEINは若い女の子を中心に安く流行の洋服、小物を使うことができることで有名ですが、プチプラであるがゆえに記事がペラペラなどハズレも少なくない。せっかく買っても数回着てそのまま、なんてこともある。高いのは一見マイナスに見えるけど、質も伴っているのであれば何年もキープすることができるから環境にもいいのかも。って、日本の良さを語るつもりがフィンランドの良さを語ってますね笑

これはホリデー中に感じたこと。秋休みが一週間ほどあったときのこと。友達はみんな海外旅行やサマーコテージに行っていたのですが、私は何も予定がなく、それまでの毎週のように楽しい予定があったギャップにやられてちょっとホームシックになってしまいました。ホストファミリーは各々のんびりと過ごしていたので、私は一人でヘルシンキに行ったりと自分と向き合う時間を作りました。私は高校交換留学ということで好きなところに好きなだけいる、ということができないのも一因だと思います。ルールは留学団体によって異なり、それについては少し詳しく前にNOTEに書いたのでよかったら読んでみてください！
ひとつ前の項目に書いたように国内では観光する場所も限られているからか、それとも違う環境を求めてかホリデーになると海外旅行に行く人がとても多いです！中でも人気なのがスペイン、スウェーデン、エストニアでしょうか。友達の友達が日本に行ったと聞きましたよ！

このくらいでしょうか。
ちなみに私のホストファミリー宅は一番近いスーパーには徒歩十数分、駅にも近いという立地に恵まれましたが、私の留学生友達のお家は最寄りの駅までバスを乗り継がないといけない、という子もいます。学校までバスと電車を乗り継がないといけない子もいて、大変そうです。
また、「高校生　女子　勉強」というと、文房具が思い浮かぶんじゃないでしょうか！フィンランドではデジタル教材が主流のため、勉強のためにはノート、シャーペンはほとんど使いません！数学や語学の授業など一部の教科では手を動かしますが、課題提出はすべてオンライン上なので、あまり必要がない。。。必要のないものは生産する必要がない！ということで、文房具コーナーは必要最低限、男の子は特に、鉛筆を使っています。

さて、
一番上にある英文について、まさにその通りだと思ったので載せてみました！もとの文には外国に住んで一年ごとの変化、とありますが、私はすでにすべて経験したつもりです笑　
フィンランドの魅力は尽きませんが、人を楽しませるという点では日本が圧倒的に勝ると思います。

Hi guys! Did you have a great Christmas day? Christmas in lively Finland has come to an end, and things settled down. I bet many of you feel the same,, can you believe it is already almost New Year? When you look up stuff about Finland,  you will probably find mostly good things.
Initially, when I started my study abroad, I was all about how amazing this country is! And comparing it to life in Japan, you know, the usual. But as time passed and I got used to things and life, other aspects started becoming apparent. This time, as I hit the halfway mark of my study abroad life in Finland, I want to share my thoughts on the goodness of Tokyo, my hometown, and Japan. Just a heads up, this is all my perspective, and being an exchange student limits what I can do alone, so keep that in mind.

Shopping is totally exciting!
In finland, every single station and place pretty much has the same chain stores, an the view after getting off the train hardly changes. The excitement during shopping might be less compared to Japan.  Whether you go, it is the same shops and same products. But scrolling through X, it seems same situation exists in japan. major shopping place like atre, influenced by captialism or whatever, tend to have same stores near stations.  However!! maybe due to fewer varieties of chain stores, shopping in Finland feels the same everywhere!

talikng about the capital, helsinki, there is different malls near the station, lively and quite many people there. But walk for about 10 mins, and it starts quieter. Shinjuku is so lively, isn’t it?  
however, despite the number of people, the city's hustle and bustle are far from the urban chaos, providing a calm atmosphere. everyone is calm and that is nice.

convenience stores are a blessing. MacDonald, clothing stores, all of it, divine.
ordaring a burger, drink, fries from a burger chain can go beyond 10 euros. that is close to 1600 yen. (on te flip side, the burger is a size bigger)
even clothing sold at major supermarkets like ito-yokado costs over 20 euros per piece. Expensive. However, it seems the same for Finns, and they buy only what they need, being eco-friendly. SHEIN is famous for affordable trendy clothes and accessories for young girls, but being budget-friendly also means there might be some misses. You might end up buying something and wearing it only a few times, unfortunately. High prices might seem like a downside, but if the quality is good, it can last for years, which is probably good for the environment. Well, unintentionally, I seem to be talking more about the goodness of Finland than Japan, haha.

Holidays and Traveling
During autumn break, which was about a week, my friends were off traveling overseas or going to summer cottages. I had no plans, and the gap from the previous weeks filled with exciting events made me a little homesick. My host family was spending their time leisurely, so I went to Helsinki alone and created some time for myself. I think being an exchange student limited me from going wherever I wanted, and that might be one reason. Rules vary depending on the exchange organization, and I wrote a bit more about it in a previous note. Please check it out if you’re interested! If you hear “high school girls studying,” you might think of stationery! In Finland, as digital learning materials are mainstream, I hardly use notebooks and pens for studying! Some subjects like math and languages involve some handwriting, but all assignments are submitted online, so there’s not much need. Unnecessary things don’t need to be produced! That’s why the stationery section has only the essentials, especially for boys who mainly use pencils. Now, about the English text at the beginning, I thought it was spot on, so I included it! I’ve already experienced everything in the original text, haha. The charm of Finland never ends, but in terms of entertaining people, I think Japan overwhelmingly excels.
