I thought Japan is known for its anime and food. But not only those, literature and film are also areas in which Japan excels according to an English textbook I read today.
Author Haruki Murakami with the success of books has been frequently mentioned as a candidate to win the Nobel prize.

The textbook says that the 1950 release of Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon has brought Japanese film onto the world stage. I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen the renowned film, so I have to see it.

There’s one more movie I have to see. It's "Moe no Suzaku" by Naomi Kawase introduced in this book as one of capable and respected filmmakers in Japan.

I saw a western guy like "Japanophile" in a video, by the way. I was both happy and funny to see it. I feel I am living in a completely different age. (It's a world apart.)

Anyway, there seems to be no doubt that Japan has commanded the world's attention for animation, food, literature, and film.

日本はアニメと和食で知られていると思っていたが、今日読んだ英語の教本によると、それだけでなく、文学と映画も日本が秀でている分野だという。作品が成功をおさめている作家の村上春樹は、ノーベル賞の受賞候補としてたびたび名前が挙がっている。

1950年に公開された黒澤明監督の『羅生門』が、日本映画を世界の舞台に引き上げたとその教本には書かれている。恥ずかしながら、私はこの有名な映画を見たことがない。見なければ。

もう一本観なければならない映画がある。有能で尊敬を集めている映画監督の一人としてこの本で紹介されている河瀬直美監督の『萌の朱雀』だ。

ところで、この間「日本かぶれ」な欧米人を動画で見たが、嬉しいやら、おかしいやら。隔世の感があった。

ともあれ、日本がアニメ、食、文学、映画で世界の注目を浴びていることは間違いないようだ。
