今日は記事を読んでいただいた方からリクエストで
アメリカ医療通訳講座について書かせて頂きます。

アメリカで医療通訳を学ぼうと思った動機(2018年8月当時)

私にはアメリカは夢の世界でした。
医療通訳士が医療チームの一員として勤務している。
通訳費用は医療費の一部として認められている(日本は患者負担です)

アメリカの診察での会話をもっと学びたい
札幌在住の私が医療通訳を学べる講座は日本になかった
diploma courseが当時日本円で16万円位で払えそうだった

私が選んだ講座です。
アメリカ医療通訳士の試験の受験資格を得るためのコースです。

アメリカでは私は日本語医療通訳士です。

受講要件は
日本、アメリカ共に高卒以上かそれに準ずる語学力が要件でした。
留学の経験のない私はTESOLのdiplomaで基準をクリアしました。

でも日本人だからと
スピーキングテストのスコア提出を求められました。
難しくて、もう2度と受けたくありません😁

筆記はこのような課題を30回書くイメージです。

Live session 6回の参加が必要でした。

60分間インストラクターがこのようなシナリオで話し、
ランダムに当てられて
この半分位の量を自分の言語に通訳します。
学んだことをレポートに書きます。
シナリオは貰えないので
録音して何度も何度も聞きました。

First Scenario is about someone having Constipation Problem:

Doctor(D):
Hi there! My name is Gerald.
Please take your seat.
So, what seems to be your problem?

Patient(P):
I went to a Chinese restaurant last Saturday for dinner with my friends.
We ate quite a lot and the food was quite heavy and oily.
After I got home I started to feel sick.

D: Did you experience any vomiting or fever?

P: No, I didn't.
But that night I had trouble sleeping and I had nightmares too.

D:
Was there any extreme on the food?
It can cause nightmares for some people.
Well, it may not have been the root cause of your problems.

P:
I think the restaurant did put MSG on the food.
But the main problem is since Sunday I had terrible constipation every day.
I don’t know what to do about my constipation.

D:
Okay, please lie down on your back.
I’m going to take a look at your abdomen.
Does it ache here when I touch it?

P: No, it’s alright there.

D: How about here or here?

P: Just a little sore but not too bad.

D:
Can you tell me over the last four days how often have you been going to the toilet?

P:
Every an hour or so, I would go to the toilet and try but very little comes out.

オンラインの英語の先生にアドバイスを貰って
2019年8月に受講開始し11月にCertificateを取得しました。
それを3回繰り返し2020年7月にdiplomaを取得しました

当時は医療通訳士資格のことは考えていませんでした。
ただただ嬉しかった。
