「神はのりこえられる試練しか与えない」

シドニーCBDにある教会Wesley Missionには当時寄贈した拙作が今でも展示されている。

何をもって復興の完了とするかは分からないが、季節が幾度も移り変わる中で、人々の営みも年中行事も、元通りとはいかないまでも随分と戻ってきたのではないだろうか。

震災当日。あの日は自宅のパソコンに釘付けになって夜遅くまで被災地を心配した。そしてよく寝もしないまま早朝フライトでダボ市へと飛んだ。市内の日本庭園「逍遥園」で開催されるAutumn Festivalに出演するためだ。

当初の予定では「歓迎　逍遥園」と大書するはずだった。それを市の担当の方に被災地へのお見舞いの言葉に変更してはくれないかとお願いし、彼らも快く承諾してくれたのをよく覚えている（https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCOWJ6DxGTg　/　後にこの書は姉妹都市の岐阜県美濃加茂市に送られ、市役所ロビーに展示された）。

日本国内はもちろんオーストラリアでも沢山のチャリティイベントが開催された。前出のダボのほか、シドニー各地、ゴールドコーストでも数多くのイベントに参加させていただいた。日本人皆が被災地のために自分ができることに力を尽くしたと思う。

オーストラリアに住んでいる様々な国籍の実に沢山の人々が、大人から子供まで日本のために力を貸してくれたし、多くの募金をしてくれた。こんなに日本のことを思ってくれているのかと非常に驚いたし、今でも心から感謝している。日本人はこのことを決して忘れるべきではないと思うのだ。

10年の節目にあらためて深く感謝したい。
オーストラリアの皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。

"God only gives a trial that can be passed"

The Wesley Mission, a church in Sydney CBD, still has my work on display.

We do not know what the end of reconstruction will be, but as the seasons goes, I think the activities of people and annual events have returned to the way they were, if not to the way they were.

On the day when that earthquake had happened, I was glued to my computer and worried about the disaster area until late at night. And I flew to Dabbo city by early morning flight without sleeping well. It is to perform at the Autumn Festival held in the Japanese garden "Shouyouen" in the city.

The original plan was to write big letters like "Welcome to Shouyouen". I remember asking the representative in charge of the city to change letters to a word of sympathy for the disaster area, and they willingly accepted it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCOWJ6DxGTg / Later the work was sent to its sister city, Minokamo City, Gifu Prefecture, and displayed in the city hall lobby.)

Many charity events were held not only in Japan but also in Australia. In addition to the event in Dabbo mentioned above, I participated in many events in Sydney and the Gold Coast. I think all the Japanese worked hard to do what they could for the disaster area.

Tons of people of all nationalities living in Australia have helped and raised funds for Japan, from adults to children. I was very surprised that they were worrying so much about Japan, and I am still very grateful from the bottom of my heart. I think the Japanese must never forget this.
