Greek language learning - approach

The followings summarizes the approach that I would like to make for Greek language learning within the limited time frame.

Problem

  • Greek grammar is complex, which might take time to capture the entire grammatical rules.

  • To achieve target output within three-months intervention period, I would focus on the basic grammar rule to form a sentence for daily conversation.

Empirical evidence

  • Through my layperson search on the effective secondary language acquisition, the following empirical evidences were found:

  • Engaging in oral output promoted greater noticing and deeper analysis of auditory input as well as more robust grammar development in second language compared to no output (Zalbidea, 2020).

  • However, sustained linguistic gains on the lower-salience target structure were only observed among participants who engaged in output and input processing in the written modality (Zalbidea, 2020).

  • Both input-based and output-based activities lead to both productive vocabulary knowledge (Shafiee, et al, 2019).

  • Similar levels of effects for input-based and output-based activities on vocabulary acquisition (Shafiee, et al, 2019).

Approach

  • Simulate the situation that Greek languages needs/wants to be used

  • List up phrases in English/ Japanese and (correctly) translate them into Greek

  • Memorize through repetitive oral output of the above phrases in Greek

  • Write down the above phrases on one note designated to Greek study

  • Translate surrounding objects into Greek and memorize it through repetitive oral output

  • Aim to understand Greek grammar rules vaguely through studying the above sentences/ phrases.
