最初、ひとりで探していたんだ。

「なにを探してるの？」
「大切なもの。うまく言えないけど」

「それって、見つかりそう？」
「わからない。難しいだろうね」

「ふたりで探したらどうかしら」
「君、一緒に探してくれるの？」

「うん、いいわよ」

それで、ふたりで探し始めたんだ。
でも、なかなか見つからなかった。

「私たち、なにを探しているの？」
「それを見つけたらわかるさ」

「もう疲れちゃった」
「いいよ。ひとりで探すから」

「ねえ、三人ならどうかしら」
「それ、どういう意味？」

「赤ちゃんができたの」

探す暇がなくなってしまった。
娘が生まれ、父親になったから。

「かわいいわね」
「うん、かわいい」

「きっと、この子よ」
「なにが？」

「探していたのは、この子よ」

「そうかな」
「そうよ。そうに決まってるわ」

そうかもしれない。
そうでないかもしれない。

でも、他に考えられないから
とりあえず、そう思うことにしたんだ。

Looking Things

My daughter was born and I became her father.
