ひなびた山奥で　
ひとり笛を吹いていた。

鳥のさえずりに調子を合わせ　
そよ風のささやきに旋律をのせ････　

これでも都では、一時期ではあるが　
「笛の名手」と称えられていたものだ。

やがて吹き疲れ　
うううんと背伸びをする。

見上げると、木の上に猿がいた。
小枝を手に持ち、口にくわえている。

笛吹く真似をしているらしい。

「おもしろい。猿に吹けるか」
木の上の猿に笛を放り投げてやった。

驚きながらも、猿は笛を受け取った。

さっそく口に当て、吹く真似をする。
しぱらくすると、かすかに鳴った。

「うまい、うまい。なかなか筋がよいぞ」

夕暮れが近づいたので、山を下りた。

さてさて。
あれから、あの笛はどうなったやら。
　

Monkey Flute

I was blowing a flute alone in the back of the mountain.

Tune to the song of the bird
and melody the whisper of the breeze...

I was still in the city for a while
and was praised as "a flute master."

After a long time, I feel tired and blow up.

Looking up, there was a monkey on the tree.
He holds a twig in his hand and holds it in his mouth.

It seems to imitate playing the flute.

“It ’s funny. Can monkeys play?”
I threw the flute at the monkey on the tree.

He immediately puts it in his mouth
and imitates blowing.
