今回は秋学期の授業その３、Accountingについて触れたいと思います！

1. 内容

SIPAでは選択必修としてFinancial Managmentの授業を最低１つはとることになっており、私は秋学期で早く必修科目を終えておきたいこともあってこれを選びました。
I took Acco as part of the core courses (Financial Management), also because I wanna fulfill my core requirement in earlier semesters.

2. 特徴

始めにBalance Sheet、Income Statement、Statement of Cash Flowといった財政書類の基礎を学び、そこから細部を詳しく見ていきます。
特に面白いのが、Management EstimatesによってStatementの見栄えが劇的に変わるということ。（特にRevenue Recognition、Depreciation、Amortization、Investments、など）

数字は作られるものであり、その奥にある真意を見抜かなければならない、というのがいかにも人間味があります。

At first, we learned the basics of financial statements such as Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Statement of Cash Flow. Then we went into depth of each detail.
What interested me was that the figures in financial statements are highly dependent on management estimates, especially such areas as Revenue Recognition, Depreciation、Amortization and Investments.
"Figures are made, so we have to figure out manegement's intent behind these figures." This is really humane!

3. 教授

内容については、１学期分にしては中々濃いものだと感じます。
私はこの科目を日本で全く学んだことがなかったのですが、Alan Brott教授の説明がとても分かりやすい！

Energeticな上、RepetitionとExampleを効果的に使って分かりやすく説明してくれます。
前提知識がなくても、しっかり作り込まれたLecture NoteとCase（個人で解く課題）をやれば自然と知識が身につくようになっています。
他の生徒にも自信をもってオススメできる教授ですね！

The contents are kind of bountiful for one semester course.
Although I've never learned accounting in Japan, Professor Alan Brott is awesome!
We can acquire necessary knowledge through elaborated lecture notes and cases (assignments solved by each student), even if we don't have any specific knowledge.
I wannna recommend this prof and course to any student!

この内容が仕事に直接生きる機会がどの程度あるかは分かりませんが、会社の財政状況を分析する力を養うことができたのは貴重な経験でした。
中間試験は良い出来だったので、期末もこのまま行けるように頑張ります！

I'm afraid that the contents of this course are not directly relevant to my work after graduation, but it's a really invaluable opportunity to develop insights into financial situation of private companies.
I did fairly well in midterm exam, so I wanna keep it to the final!
