どんな分野についても言えることだと思いますが、ある程度のレベルまで達したら、あとは誰かに教えてもらうのではなく、自分でテーマを決めて進んで行くものです。

英語についても同じです。
このnoteに書いてあることは、その域に達したと感じている人にとっての、一つの方向になるかもしれません。

冒頭の動画をダウンロードして、専用プレーヤーで英語字幕を読みながら再生(あるいは、動画を見ながら聞き取れなかったところを字幕で確認)してください (再生画面はこんな感じです)。字幕は、すぐ下の「字幕ファイルの作り方」のようにすれば簡単に出来ます。

字幕には間違いや省略が含まれていますが (番組放送後２時間ほどでアップロードされる字幕なので、間違いがあっても仕方ないかもしれません)、慣れれば、間違いや省略に気付いて、補正しながら動画を見ることが出来るようになります。英語上級者には必要ないと思いますが、実際に英語音声を聞いて訂正した字幕ファイルが、このページの一番下からダウンロードできます。

とりあえず３ヵ月間続けてみてください。下の説明のように動画をダウンロードして、字幕ファイルも自分で作れば１円もかかりません。
でも、慣れるまでは、かなり大変だと思います。ですから、努力しないで楽に英語のニュースを理解できるようになる方法があると思う人には向きません。

So now you have hundreds of pieces of legislation pushing back against vaccine mandates, against masking mandates, because this was seen as an issue of personal freedom, of bodily autonomy. But it's not a personal choice when you talk about measles, because it's a contagious disease. So when you make a decision for yourself, you're also making a decision for others. And, remember, there's about nine million people in this country who can't be vaccinated because they're getting chemotherapy for their cancer or because they have a solid organ transplant or a bone marrow transplant. They depend on those around them to be protected. Do we have any responsibility to our neighbor? I think we do.
