学会参加まで、残り11日!!

昨日の日記では
学会参加に対する漠然とした不安を
整理したところ、
イギリス滞在や文化理解への不安も
ありましたが、最も大きいのは…

英語力に対する不安で、
・学会の英語が聞き取れないかもしれない
・他の研究者たちの発表内容での専門用語が分からないかもしれない
・英語力不足のために学会の内容が理解できず、
　出張報告レポートを上手く書けないかもしれない
・英語が分からない場合の緊急対応の方法が無くて不安

今日は、先日に発表された
当日のプログラム表を参考に、
自分たちと賞を競い合う
同じセッション内のライバル達が
どんなプレゼンテーションを
するのかを確認してみました。

これらの論文タイトルに
一通り目を通した後の、
僕の率直な感想は、
「この9つの共通点は何だろうか…？」
でした。

何度か9つのタイトルを見返しましたが、
ブロックチェーンやメタバースなどの
先端技術に関する内容もあれば、
マーケティングや行動変容もあれば、
従業員のモチベーション向上などの
人事系のテーマもある…

結論として、この共通点探しは
深く考えてもあまり意味がなさそうかも…？
と思いました。

ただ、
これらの論文タイトルの別の活用方法として、
学会当日のプレゼンで登場しそうな専門用語を
あらかじめ予想して調べておき、
プレゼンの理解度を上げることはできそうです。

具体的には、今日からのTED talksで
聞くプレゼンのテーマ選びに、
・プラスチック廃棄物
・ドローンでの配送
・ブロックチェーン
・メタバース
・SNS
・歯科医
・医療保険
を検索キーワードに入れて
いくつかのプレゼンを聞いておくことで、
それぞれの分野の専門用語や言い回しに
慣れておこう！という作戦です。

ということで、早速TED talksでの
勉強に取り掛かろうと思います！

Start preparing for the content and terminology of the day's presentation by looking at the titles of the conference papers

11 days left to attend the conference!

In yesterday's diary, I sorted out my vague concerns about attending the conference, some of which were about my stay in the UK and understanding the culture, but the biggest ones were...

・I am worried about my English language skills:
・I may not be able to understand the English at the conference;
・I may not be able to understand the technical terms used by other 　researchers in their presentations;
・I may not be able to write a good report on my trip due to my lack of 　English skills;
・I am worried that I have no emergency response method in case I do not 　understand English.

Today, I referred to the programme list for the day of the conference, which was announced a few days ago, to see what kind of presentations our rivals in the same session who are competing for the prize would give.

After reading through all of these paper titles, my honest thought was,
"What do these nine have in common...?" was.

I looked over the nine titles several times, some of them are about advanced technologies such as blockchain and metaverse, some of them are about marketing and behaviour change, some of them are about HR-related topics such as employee motivation...

In conclusion, this search for commonalities does not seem to make much sense if I think about it in depth...? I thought.

However, as another way of using these paper titles, it may be possible to anticipate and look up technical terms that are likely to appear in the presentation on the day of the conference in advance to improve the understanding of the presentation.

Specifically, in selecting the topics for the presentations I will hear in the TED talks from today, I should familiarise myself with the terminology and phrases in the respective fields by including the following search terms: plastic waste, drone delivery, blockchain, metaverse, social networking, dentists and health insurance! That's my strategy!😄

So, after a short break, I will start studying in the TED talks!
