どこまでも
果てしなくつづくベージュの砂浜に
ビーチタオルを敷いて
仰向けに寝っ転がる

閉じたまぶたに
太陽があったかい
潮の香りがする
海風が体を撫でる
波が浜をザブンザブンと打つ
 
引き出しの奥から取りだしてきた
古いワンピースの水着
色褪せて、心なしか薄っぺらい
青白い生足は
もう、生娘きむすめの弾力を失っている
 
毎日毎日
二人の幼い子供たちの世話に追われるも
まだまだこれからだと
野心を燃やしながら
ただ、がむしゃらに生きていた
けれど、まだ若くて、美しくて
家中が、愉快な笑い声で満ち溢れていた
 
太陽は水平線に向かって傾き
日差しが柔らかくなってくる
私は全身で、日差しを受け
自分がこの地球の一部だという証を
存分に楽しむ
 
私は温まった体をそっと起こす
三歳になった息子がそばで
スコップとバケツを手に
砂遊びをしている
小さな海水パンツから
ぷっくりしたお腹をだして
砂山をつくっている
 
そこへ、不意にどこからともなく
白い子犬がやってきて、
私たちのすぐそばで
穴を掘り始める

真っ白い毛が風に吹かれて
尻尾をブンブン振りながら
砂を掻きだす
なにかを探しているのか、それとも
ただ穴を掘るのが楽しいのか
わからないけれど、懸命だ
 
海の方に視線を這わせると
夫が波打ち際に立ち
ひたすら海を見つめている

水中でスノーケルをつけて
魚にでもなったかのように
勇敢にスイスイと泳ぎつづける娘を
波間に失わないために
 
太陽が空をオレンジ色に染め始める
そしてじきに、地上にいる私たち
人間、動物、木々、砂といった
地球上のすべてのものを
あのオレンジ色が
大きな愛で包み込むだろう
 

SUNSET BEACH　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
 
Who knows how far
the beige beach stretches
where I spread out a towel
and lie on my back. The sun
warm on closed eyelids and the air
smells of salt. The sea breeze
strokes my body and waves
boom on the sand.
 
I took it from the back of the drawer.
An old one-piece swimsuit
and packed it in a suitcase in a hurry
Fading, and thin.
 
My pale bare legs have already lost
the elasticity of the virgin.
Even though we are chased
by raising two children every day
Life goes on and we are passionate
about our ambitions.
We hustle for life but are still
young and beautiful and
the house brims with laughter.
 
The sun will soon tilt towards the horizon
and it’s getting softer.
My whole body receives sunshine and proof
I am still part of this planet,
Then I gently wake up my warm body.
 
My three-year-old son beside me
With a shovel and a bucket in hand.
He concentrates hard,
Sticking the plump stomach out of his swimming trunks.
He is making a sand mountain.
Suddenly out of nowhere a white puppy comes
And starts digging a hole right next to me
Its pure white hair flutters in the wind,
tail wagging. The puppy scrapes at the sand.
Are you looking for a bone or are you just having fun
digging a hole?
I don’t know, but he works hard.
I glance across the water.
My husband is standing on the shore
and staring at the sea.
Not to let the mischievous waves
kidnap his daughter.
 
The sun begins to dye the sky orange
And soon, everything on earth,
humans, animals, trees, sand,
will be wrapped in a lovely
orange embrace.
