Upon seeing my cat reclining in her usual easy posture against the warm furry pet-bed indoor, while the icy gales outside rages, I immediately decided for myself that must be what Cleopatra looks like to Shakespeare---a big, black-and-white Van-patterned tabby cat that so often forgets herself and wanders everywhere; though always returning for dinner. And spoilt too, occasionally, by a poor master who could only afford 300-yen bargain deshelled shrimps.

外は氷のような強風が吹き荒れているのに、私の愛猫は室内の暖かい毛皮のペットベッドにいつものようにくつろいだ姿勢で横たわっているの所を見て、
「シェイクスピアの目に見えるクレオパトラはこの姿に違いない」だと自分に思い込んでいたしました。
ヴァン柄(Van-patterned)の黒白の大きなタビー猫(tabby)で、よく我を忘れてあちこち歩き回る。でもいつも夕食には戻ってくる。
そして、300円のバーゲンセールの殻むきエビしか買えない貧乏な主人に、ときどき甘やかされる。
