岡倉天心が「The book of Tea」（邦題茶の本）で、東洋の美意識を伝えたことは、Teaism ～The book of Tea①で書きました。今回は、天心が見出した東洋の美について書きたいと思います。２点あります。

＜相対的に見る＞
天心は、あらゆるものを「相対的に見る」ことの大切さを伝えています。思い込みをせず、どこか良いところを見出す。人と接するときも、社会をみつめるときも、自分と向き合うときも、あらゆる場面で。

＜不完全の美＞
天心は西洋の美を「完全の美」とし、東洋の美を「不完全の美」「余白の美（空白の美）」ととらえています。

例えば芸術作品でも、伝えたいことを全て作品に込めるのではなく、空白を残し、見る人の想像力によって、作品を完成させる。

茶道では「一座建立（いちざこんりゅう）」という禅語を大切にしています。
茶席において、客をもてなす側の亭主は、客に居心地よい時間を過ごしてもらうよう、準備の段階から最善を尽くします。一方、客も、よりよい場になるよう最善を尽くし、亭主のもてなしに応えます。亭主と客が心を通い合わせて、より完成度の高い茶会にしていく。
茶会の場にいる全員で、美しい調和を創り上げるという感じでしょうか。余白があるからできることですね。

ついつい余白を埋めたくなりますが、余白を楽しむ、そんなしゃれた人になりたいです。

I wrote in last my article, Teaism - The book of Tea (1), that Okakura Tenshin introduced the aesthetic sense of the Orientals in The book of Tea. This time, I would like to write about Tenshin's discovery of the beauty of the Orient.

Relatively speaking
Tenshin conveys the importance of seeing everything "relatively. Do not make assumptions, but find some good in everything. This is true in all situations, whether you are dealing with people, looking at society, or facing yourself.

The beauty of imperfection
Tenshin refers to Western beauty as "the beauty of perfection" and to Eastern beauty as "the beauty of imperfection" or "the beauty of blank spaces.
For example, in a work of art, the artist does not put everything he wants to convey into the work, but leaves blank spaces, allowing the viewer's imagination to complete the work.

In the tea ceremony, we cherish the Zen phrase "Ichiza konryu.
At a tea ceremony, the host does their best from the preparation stage to ensure that the guests have a comfortable time. The guests, on the other hand, respond to the host's hospitality by doing their best to make the occasion even better. The tea ceremony is made more complete when the host and the guests are in harmony with each other.
It is like creating a harmony with everyone. It is possible to do this because of the blank space.

It is tempting to fill in the margins, but I want to be that kind of person who enjoys the imperfection and inconvenience.
