プログレッシブメタルの巨星、DREAM THEATERの名盤2nd"Images And Words"(1992)より、"Another Day"。彼らのバラードでは"Surrounded"に次いで好きな曲です。
ギタリストJohn Petrucciが、父親の癌闘病生活について綴った歌詞ですが、自殺の延期をテーマに解釈し訳してみました。
"they"の解釈•訳が揺れていますが、曲を聴いている時のイメージはこんな感じなのでそのまま訳しました。

周りに話せば観察の対象にされ
かと思えば死の議論などしたくないと有耶無耶にされ
こう言われる 「焦らなくてもいずれお迎えはやってくるんだから」
※特に訳出の難しい箇所。初出の"they"は「世間」、2回目以降は「天使(死)」と解釈しています。"stairs"も死を暗示するもの(天国への階段)として解釈しました。
