低Na血症は最も多い電解質異常であり、成人の約5%、入院患者の約35%で認められる。低Na血症は血清Na値が135mEq/Lより低い場合と定義され、水の保持の結果である場合が最も多い。軽度の低Na血症であっても入院期間の延長や死亡率の上昇に相関する。
